Special Honor

Alcoa Chairman and CEO Alain Belda was honored by the Government of Brazil with the Ordem de Rio Branco (Order of Rio Branco) for his contributions to Brazil. The Order of Rio Branco is named after José Maria da Silva Paranhos Junior, Baron of Rio Branco, who is regarded as a symbol of Brazilian diplomacy.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim recognized Mr. Belda: "When Mr. Belda was president of Alcoa Aluminio in Brazil, he conducted substantial investments in the country. Although working in the U.S. today, he has remained deeply connected to our nation's recent developments and actively interested in Brazil's growth."
On accepting the award, Mr. Belda said, "It is an honor to receive such as important tribute as this one. To have your work recognized by the Government of your country with the Order of Rio Branco is the crowning point of my professional career."
