Alcoa EES do Brasil is located in Itajubá (Minas Gerais) and started operating there in January, 1996. The company currently has approximately 800 employ Alcoa EES and is a benchmark in the development of projects and the manufacture of electrical distribution systems for the automobile sector, where it focuses on the domestic market. Some 445 km from the Minas Gerais state capital and 261 km from São Paulo the unit is strategically positioned with easy road access, served by municipal, state and federal highways.

The apparently simple electrical distribution systems in an automobile involve complex engineering. Through its circuits pass practically all the commands coming from the driver, from engine ignition to unlocking the doors, from switching on the windshield wipers, head and parking lights to the horn and any other mechanism that depends on electrical impulses. All the products are of a guaranteed quality.

In January, 1997, Alcoa EES received Q1 level indication from Ford, a distinction reserved only for the auto-maker’s suppliers that have unquestionable quality standards. In 1998, the first challenge was certification in line with the strict criteria of ISO 9002, swiftly followed by QS 9000, ISO 14001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 9001(that substitutes ISO 9002) and BS 8800 certification, which along with OHSAS 18001 defines the requirements for a safety and health management system, until then achieved by very few companies in Brazil. In 2005, Alcoa EES received an A, the maximum possible in terms of quality assessment, from MWM – International Motores, Mercosur’s largest manufacturer of diesel engines.

In 2006, Alcoa EES received Visteon’s Excellence Award, in recognition of its outstanding performance in the quality, delivery and commercial support of the products it supplies. In 2007, the company maintained its ISSO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification following a re-audit; this contributes towards improving the quality and competitiveness of the company and its products, by protecting the environment and offering well-being to society.
